Juba University was established in 1977, with syllabis and objectives that made it more close to its community compared to its alikes in the African continent. The University raises the motto of "Affinity and Scientific Distinction" in all its activities.

The University's Colleges are as follows:

1 - Natural Resources and Environment Studies College:

It awards bachelor of honour degree in the specializations of Agricultural sciences, animal production, fish, forestry, wildlife, geology, mining and environmental studies.

2 - Faculty of medicine:

The period of study in the faculty is six years, after which the student is graduated with a bachelor degree in medicine and surgery.

3 - Faculty of Education:

This faculty includes departments of mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, history, geography, English and Arabic languages.

4 - Applied and Industrial Sciences College:

The college awards bachelor of honour degree in more than 16 specializations, related to the field of applied sciences.

5 - Faculty of Social and Economic Studies:

The college awards bachelor of honour degree in the following specialization: Accounting, business administration, statistics, economics and political science and anthropology.

6 - Adult Education and Community Development College:

The college awards the bachelor degree in adult education, family sciences, mass communication and social service.

Post Graduate Studies:

1 - Juba University awards master and PHD degrees in the various specializations at the college of natural resources and environmental studies.

2 - The Faculty of medicine awards PHD in the skin and venereal diseases.
