Council for International People’s Friendship:

This Council was established in Khartoum in 1990 and it came to being as a necessity since it is a fact that the people of the Sudan are known for their inculcated values of tolerance and fraternal relations with the people of the world. It aimed to enable the people of the Sudan to play an effective role in enriching the process of popular diplomacy which aims at fostering international co-operation and peace. The Council is established to serve the following objectives:

  1. To represent Sudan in international conferences and Seminars called for by people’s organizations.
  2. To establish relations with similar councils and organizations in the world.
  3. To establish national societies and organizations of friendship within the Sudan and take all the necessary steps to promote their work.
  4. To prepare the necessary research and make the appropriate studies that are relevant to international developments.
  5. To participate positively in all matters and issues of importance at the regional, continental and international levels and help resolve conflicts by peaceful means.
  6. To establish, promote and develop relations with all people’s of the world.

Membership:

The Council has a General Assembly which is composed of the following bodies:

  1. Representatives of the Unions and organizations which have an external aspect.
  2. Representation of some national research and publication centers.
  3. Chairmen of represented National Friendship Societies.
  4. Some prominent Sudanese personalities who are known for their active and fruitful contribution in enhancing international co-operation and understanding.

Friendship societies:

The friendship societies are the backbone of the Council and they are composed of members who have good ties with the people of other countries with whom they are meant to make relations.

The aims of the societies are:

  1. To promote friendly relations between the people of the Sudan and the people of aimed countries.
  2. To promote economic, cultural and social relations between the two peoples.
  3. To introduce the achievements of the peoples of the two countries to each other.
  4. The establishment of cultural and commercial exhibitions.
  5. The introduction of the history and civilization of the two peoples to each other.

The budget:

The budget of the Council is as follows:

  1. Subscriptions by institutions and unions which are members of the Council.
  2. Subscriptions of the members of the Council.
  3. Any other funds which the Council may secure through its activities.
  4. Contributions donated by governmental or non governmental bodies.

The Council Organs:

1- The Council General Assembly:

It holds regular meetings headed by the President of the Council and is attended by the representatives.

2- General secretariat:

It is an executive organ which caters for the implementation of the decisions taken by the General Assembly and is headed by the Secretary General of the Council who also undertakes the supervision of the administrative and financial matters besides being the reporter of the Council. The Secretariat is divided in to many circles, which cover the political and cultural bilateral work, such as the Arab world circle, the African, and European Circles.

International Park, Khartoum-Sudan:

The Council for International people’s Friendship in its endeavor for better understanding between peoples of the world came up with the idea of an International Park to serve this purpose. Through this project many countries will be introduced in a permanent exhibition. Each friendship Society with any country will be provided with a piece of land enough to accommodate the expected activities. The area of the plot may be up to one acre.

In the mean time all states in Sudan will have their own exhibition at the park. Sports facilities and other recreational and shopping facilities will be provided. The objective of the park is to introduce all features of participating countries in different fields such as culture, history, economy, social life of people etc.

There will be six specialized gardens (or parks) each for roses, cactus, water plants, etc. All varieties of Sudanese plants and trees will be accommodated within the park besides exhibition of plants of guest countries within their pavilion area.

Sudanese Inter-religious dialogue Association:

It was established in 1994 as an affiliated association to the Council for international people’s friendship, to assure the diversity in Sudan, and to consolidate the already existing tolerance and peaceful co-existence of religions in Sudan. It is comprising 20 scholars from both Islam and Christian religions. The Association in its continuous pursuance of the several goals of inter-religious dialogue held different conferences and symposiums in November 1991, April 1993 and October 1994 in which illustrious scientists, famous religion leaders and great thinkers got together in pursuit of brotherhood and friendship to build confidence among believers and to foster co-operation.

Humanitarian aid body:

The council for International peoples friendship co-ordinates with other different concerned bodies to facilitate humanitarian humanitarian aids for the population of any countries which are inflicted to natural distress such as earthquakes, floods, etc. This body function under the sponsorship of the council, and it has been able to render humanitarian aids to different countries.
