Historical Background:

The University was established in September 21, 1955, under the title Cairo University, Khartoum Branch, then on March 9, 1993, the University was Sudanized and named El-Nilein University. The University Sudanization covered its administration, systems and syllabus.

University Colleges:

1 - Faculty of Arts:

Including the following Departments:

a) Arabic Language.

b) English Language.

c) History.

d) Geography.

e) Sociology.

f) Philosophy.

g) Documents and Libraries.

2 - Faculty of Law.

3 - Faculty of Commerce:

Including the following departments:

a) Business Administration.

b) Political Science.

c) Economics.

d) Accounting.

e) Insurance.

4 - Faculty of Science:

Including the following departments:

(a) Chemistry.

(b) Physics and medical Physics.

(c) Zoology.

(d) Botany.

(f) Mathematics and Computer.

5 - Post-Graduate Studies College:

Awards high diploma, master and PhD degrees in the university's various specializations.

6 - Wadi Al-Niel Studies and Research Centre:

It is an academic research centre which awards master and PhD degrees in the fields of human and applied sciences within the centre's specializations, in addition to provision of opportunities for launching scientific research in the said two fields.

7 - Statistics Institute:

It awards the high diploma in statistics.

8 - Faculties of Electronic Engineering and medicine are readied prior to be inaugurated later on.

System of Study for Receiving Bachelor Degree:

The University adopts the extended academic year system which includes two semesters. It awards the general Bachelor and honour bachelor degrees in four years according to the degrees obtained by the student during his study years.

Libraries:

There is a central library in the university containing great numbers of references, research, manuscripts and periodicals. This is in addition to the branch-libraries in the university's colleges.

Students' Deanship:

It is concerned with the students' affairs by helping the students to academically, educationally, culturally and socially benefit from their years in the university to the utmost possible way.

Scientific Affairs Secretariat:

It is concerned with the general academic affairs such as admission of students, training of lecturers and activation of the university's external relations with its opposite numbers, besides setting of academic regulations and supervising their implementation and promotion.
